I was just wondering what other Religions thought about it. I am Catholic and it is A BIG NO NO!

Like IVF or medications that can help you concieve..

From personal experiance and speeking to our Imam about this many times I can say:

Anything that HELPS you conceive by your husband is OK. Anything that would artificially prevent it is NO NO.

For the Shia perspective, see http://al-islam.org/m_morals/chap5.htm

Some methods are allowed, but others are not.

Thanks for the info. My Church forbids any type of fertilization techniqe, unless it is natural of course. So this is my dilema right now :)

I know I posted a reply and now it is gone :) hummmm..
Any way, ask to your question- no I would not change Religions due to my issues. :) I have wanted to talk to my Priest but I am afraid since I know what he will say about it. Even though my church will not approve of my disicion- I will do what ever needs to be done to have a baby. If I am wrong in my actions- I will pay later. I can't imagine that this should be an issue really. If someone wants to bring life into the world- I do not feel it is wrong. But who am I!? LOL

Clerics can't decide what God says :)
Insha'Allah (God-willing) you will have a healthy, pious child!

Loveyoukaysar, I totally agree with you regarding this issue, and I'm sure many other Catholics would agree as well (of course, I don't speak for all of them). I'm Catholic as well and this is one of several issues within the Catholic church I have a problem with. But I am not going to change my religion because of it. :)

I wish you joy in this. But I have a question for you.

After your child is born will the church bless him? and are you sure that you do not want to go to your Cleric? With moderen medician the was it is maybe there is something they do consider ok.

You know I never thought of that. But I think- not sure though- that my baby would be blessed by the Church. I think the big reason that artificial reproduction is frowned upon is due to the collection process of the sperm-know what I mean? But now that you mention that, I think I better talk to him! :) Thank you for your help, I am really glad I brought this topic up :)

I just keep thinking that God is telling me there IS a reason why I can't have a baby on my own, and I am just not listening or willing to accept it - not yet atleast.
I guess I will just have to see where this takes me :)

you are right there is a reason for everything, but it may not be the reason you think. Open your heart and GOD will talk to you. There are hundreds of reasons. your body may not be ready, adoption, now is not the right time, or maybe you are ment to do something befor having a baby. I know what you are going through. You are in my prayers.

God has a plan for all of us. Us Muslims believe in Qadr (predestination).

After your child is born will the church bless him?

Who would want to belong to a church that wouldn't bless an innocent child - not matter how it was conceived?

I understand the reasoning behind this even though I am sure my heart would break if I can't conceive. I also believe that children are a gift from God. And I don't think science should interfere to the degree that it is beginning to. Cloning is the first example...but how far away is AI? I'm still pondering.

I don't have a problem with science - but I just don't understand why people insist on going through such measures when there are so many children out there that need homes right now. Why create new life when we have so many here that need taken care of?

Jenn- I understand your point on this. I will try adoption if all else fails, I would like to try to have a child with my husband and my DNA before anything else.
Adoption is a wonderful thing, my best friend was adopted. I am not against it in the least. Cloning is a whole other can of worms. That is just plain wrong in my opinion.

Rght - I agree that cloning should not be used as a means of reproduction.

I am actually thinking about adopting, as well.

I know that you are cathlic, I do not know their views on adoption. While adoption is legal in Islam there are rules.

Surah 33:4-5
Allah has not provided two hearts in the breast of a man, nor made your wives your mothers, nor has he made your adopted sons your raeal sons. This is only what your lips pronounce.

Call them be the names of their fathers. This is the right course in the sight of Allah. If you fo not know their fathers, they are then your brothers in religion and your friends. It will not be a sin id you make a mistake, unless you do so intentionally; for Allah if gorgiving and kind.
