View Full Version : Songs That Make You Cry

FranzKafka

I'm not a big crier, but some songs just bring it out of me.

1. Save the Last Dance by the Drifters
2. Sweet Child Of Mine by Guns N Roses
3. Fast Car by Tracy Chapman
4. Sally's Pigeons by Cyndi Lauper

and I just now realize how many songs there actually are that cause these tears of mine to flow. I'm much too embarassed to continue, but I hope everyone else wil share. Maybe even explain what it is about the song that makes you cry. I'll share more later.

Josh Groban makes me cry when he sings. His song choices are usually meaningful and spiritual. He touches my soul when he sings.

The very first song that came to my mind was a song by an 80's group called Talk Talk...and the song's called "It's My Life"....when the song first came out in 1984, and I heard it over the radio, my cat had just died of leukemia...and this was the very first time I had dealt with death...I was 8 years old at the time...and even now till this day, that song really brings that whole experience back to me. It was very painful.

It's an old one, but Imagine, by John Lennon, gets the tears flowing every time.

It was always a powerful song, as are many of Lennon's, but when it showed up at the end of the movie The Killing Fields and was set against the horror of war, it's made it all the more powerful for me. Add to that, it's John Lennon, and makes me think about his death, too.

Mine would have to be:

Because of You - by Kelly Clarkson
Streets of Heaven - by Sherrie Austin
Low - by Kelly Clarkson

There are so many more but these are the closest to me at the moment because they all have a very powerful meaning in my life.

Tear-jerker songs? Have to think abou this... Well, I like...

Bon Jovi- "Always"

Keath Urban- "You'll think of Me"

Michael Buble- "Home"

Gerard Butler from the movie Phantom of The Opera- "That's All I Ask of You" (the entire song was sung by Christine and Raaul, but I loved when the Phantom sings the chorus towards the end, it just breaks my heart :( . I cried so much when I heard him sing it )

I know there's more but it's not coming to mind..

Eric claptons, Tears in heaven (I think thats the name)

Garth brooks: The dance, and if tomorrow never comes

(Edwin mccain is great. I had the pleasure of seeing him in concert twice when he came down here. The great thing about it was that it was in a small theatre, so it was a more "intimate setting". I got to meet him afterwards, and he is hilarious.)

That's funny country songs make me want to cry too! Probably, for different reasons though. ;)

I'm waiting for a country singer to record "I bought her lobster and she gave me crabs!" I can't remember the comedian that originally suggested this title; but it sounds country to me. :P

Hmm, nothing these days.

When I was in my mid-twenties I would cry like crazy when I heard Louie Armstrong's "Wonderful World".

After I left my ex-husband (I was 24) I got back together with someone I had dated in high school. We moved up here to san jose and shared a house with three other guys we went to high school with that had relocated up here for work. We used to drink and party a lot. They used to torture me by putting on that song to see how quickly I would start crying. Ugh, lol. It doesn't make me cry now. =P

Oh, now I started thinking.

Moon River really gets me..call me sappy.

I'm using "God Only Knows" by the Beach Boys for me recessional at my wedding in January. That song really gets to me, but in a good way. In the liner notes for the special cd edition of Pet Sounds, there is a bit where they talk about going into record it, and how they had a group prayer asking for the song to be beautiful and full of love. I think their prayers were answered. =)

Anyone hear of Maddy Stepanek? Any faithful Oprah show watchers will know of this now deceased 13 yr.old. He stole our hearts from his first appearance, I think when he was about 10-11 , he was promoting his book of poetry called Heartsongs. Maddy livid everyday w/ a horrible version of Muscular Dystrophy. He lost 3 siblings to the disease as well. He spent his last years in a w/c w/ a ventilator doing his breathing ie Christopher Reeves chair. Anyway he'd been writing poetry since he was 3! On one show of special kids he and Billy Gilman(sp?) met , struck a friendship and decided that Billy would put Maddy's poems to music. It resulted in a beautiful CD called Heartsongs.
Every song is a killer (have your box of tissues handy). Billys sweet voice, the (searching for the word???...) choreography (not right word but hopefully meaning is expressed) of the music and the words are terrific. You cant help but envision this brave little boy dealing w/ adult sized issues of fears or never to be experienced things in his future. This is a can't miss CD check the internet used sites for it.
