Hi all! To those truly interested in this fascinating topic and perhaps questioning what's real, A&E has a TV special on tonight. I know some good people are involved and I am looking forward to it. I just hope it's handled intelligently and fairly, but sounds like it will be intriguing. It's on from 8-10 pm EST on A&E as mentioned. Here's a couple synopsis of the show;
Mediums: We See Dead People
Fascinating two-hour special that delves into the work of psychic mediums as they speak to the dead, solve crimes, photograph spirits, explore hauntings, and get involved in other paranormal activities. Featured are John Holland, who "feels" the giant fireball that killed factory workers nearly a century ago; Jeffrey Wands, who talks to the dead at a New York cemetery; and Dr. Gary Schwatz, a psychologist who tests mediums for accuracy.
And this is what John Holland released;
John Holland, psychic medium, is put to the test on a fascinating new A&E television special Mediums - We See Dead People, the two hour program airs on the Arts & Entertainment network Friday, October 14th, 2005 at 8pm (check local listings).
Mediums are people who are uniquely gifted; they are able to tune into a dimension most of us never know. They are messengers to the living from the dead. In this compelling two hour A&E special, the program will attempt to show the unexplainable – phenomena that even science cannot fully explain. John Holland will visit places where he's never been taken before.
In one of the most dramatic segments, medium John Holland is driven blindfolded to a non-descript building in Greenwich Village – a building that was once the site of one of the worst disasters in New York City history: the 1911 Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire. John was lead to several floors in the building, where with his blindfold now off, he immediately began to “read” the location and pick up on its tragic history. It shows what he's sensing which is amazingly and eerily accurate. The detail he comes up with is incredible! He is even able to place the time period when this tragic disaster happened by the dress and hairstyles of the women he is “seeing.”
At another location – a restaurant in Little Italy where mobster Joey Gallo was gunned down in a 1972 hit - John virtually becomes the victim and astoundingly describes the shooting from Gallo's point of view.
This fascinating show delves into the work of psychic mediums, paranormal investigators and even a “spirit photographer”. Watch as they attempt to solve crimes, speak to the dead, “read” locations, investigate hauntings and photograph spirits in a cemetery late at night. It is all part of growing fascination with the supernatural that has swept the country in recent years.
The program features such psychics and psychic mediums as John Holland, James Van Praagh, Pam Coronado, Jeffrey Wands, Nancy Weber, Annette Martin, Gretchen Clark and Phil Jordan. We also visit the home of psychiatrist Raymond Moody who is the leading investigator of what he calls “life after life.”
John Holland is the bestselling author of Born Knowing, Psychic Navigator, and 101 Ways to Jump-Start Your Intuition (Hay House Publishing).

Hmm...mediums. Do you guys believe them?? Do you think they can REALLy contact dead people?? At first, i was a skeptic....but after watching that guy.....JOHN something?? oy vay...he has his own TV show (crossing over)...he wears glasses, kinda squishy face?? LOL. sorry, his name totally slipped my mind! :P
ok ANYWAYS, i didn't believe him at first cuz his answers seemed so vague. But over time, i eventually gave in and started to believe. It's just that sometimes he knows things that ONLY the family would know and i think that's amazing. I wont become a TRUE believer until i get my own reading. If he says something only i would know - then i'd really get sucked into the hype. I'd like to think that there is someone out there that can connect us with people who have crossed over.
ah, i think i got off topic here. :(

Awww Melly definately NOT off topic. I would adore a polite, respectful intelligent thread to discuss this topic beyond the TV show. And it really is a different subject than others here, it was just getting clumped in. Will post a better reply later with my 2 cents when I have more time.

Well I was very pleasantly surprised how well the show was done. The woo woo music and deep voice overs were kept to a minimum and I thought they did a great job of just showing a good cross section of those that do this work every day. Sadly my phone was ringing off the hook during it so I need to go back and play a few parts of it, but what I didn't miss was great. The only thing I wish they showed a little more of was Gary Schwartz explaining how they came to the scientic finding he did.
I think that's a great question to ask here of folks who may not be familiar with his work. He started out more or less to find out the truth but expecting to debunk Mediumship. It was supposed to be a one time study but what he found was so staggering it eventually changed his entire body of work and has spent years on various scientific studies showing how Mediumship and communication have been proven as legitimate and accurate. Did that come across well? I wasn't sure if I wasn't familiar with his work I would have gotten how independent he initially was and how shocked he was to have his research lead him where he is now.
Can't wait to see all of John's segment, but I was very proud of him in what I saw! I should have just ignored the blasted phone lol.
Melly did you catch this show tonight? I'd be curious to know what you thought after watching it. And between this show and Entertainment tonight I think tonight was an amazing demonstration of both the best and worst of James Van Praagh. To be continued.....

Well good news for you then. John Edward has signed with WE for a new series. They are still fine tuning it and there's no exact start date but I'm looking forward to it.
As I mentioned in the other thread, Syvia isn't one of my personal favorites because she does the one thing no good medium I know does...she listens to the entire story first THEN contacts them. I like a Medium who gives me all the information with me saying no more than yes, no or I don't understand.
But I also think this field is VERY subjective and I am all for everyone watching/enjoying/liking whomever they personally connect to. And if it's Sylvia for you, then who am I to object! And I still say her books are quite good.
I would love to hear from people who watched the A&E show who either didn't know if they believed you could communicate with those that died, or just plain didn't believe. I'd be interested to hear their take on what they saw.
I will say that I wouldn't believe anywhere near as strongly as I do if I had not had personal readings where I knew the Medium had no info about me but my first name and hit wish SUCH specific information that I lost all doubt. For awhile I questioned if they were reading my mind, but a few times Mediums told me stuff I either didn't know, or didn't believe to be true, and they kept insisting (which, btw if they were frauds woudln't they back off instead of sticking with info I insisted was wrong?). And each time I either found out I was wrong, or it was info I didn't know ,or was just too stupid to remember it at the time :D
BTW I know folks in another thread wanted me to post some URL's that intelligently dealt with this topic as well as stuff like EVP's (where folks are allegedly recording voices of those in Spirit). Is that interest still there? I'd be glad to boot up my old puter and rummage around IF folks still want em. So please let me know.
I just love this topic...it taught me how we can go through life believing one thing and be wrong lol. I did a total about face on it after a life changing experience. Was a good lesson to learn in general, and not just always be so sure of things all the time!

I got around to watching half of it last night with DH. He and I are both very interested in the topic. If I didn't have to be up at 3am I would have watched the whole thing.
I have to say I was quite impressed with John H. I was just totally in awe. To feel so much in an area must have been really weird for him.
I know I personally had some experience with this topic as I get "visited" sometimes, but I don't know from who. I can just feel a presence. I am hoping to maybe tap into that side of it.
I also have personal experience like the woman who saw into the future of things. When I was a kid (just like her) I would see plane crashes, kidnappings and things like that. It used to happen all the time but now it's hit and miss and I think it's because I have so much more on my mind. When I get totally relaxed and unstressed I have dreams usually.
My latest one was really quite funny actually. I dreamt that one of the clients I work for changed banks. So I emailed the owner of the company and told her about my dream asked if she had the check yet she said no but I'll let you know. Two days later she was freaking out..They indeed did change banks again!
Now only to do that with the winning lottery numbers! ;)
